May 21-22 became historic dates for the National trainee Corps, because the first ever all-girls group of the organisation scaled Mount Everest, the highest mountain in the world. The group included 3 class XII students from NCC directorate Jammu and kashmir.

These three 18-year-old girls – Stanzlin Laskit, Tashi Laskit, and Tsering Angmo – hail from Leh. along with the groupof cadets that scaled Mount Everest, they went through intensive coaching for 2 years. according to a defencerepresentative, the selection process was very rigorous.

First, a hundred cadets were selected from all over India. after a special mountaineering course in Darjeeling, onlyforty remained. after an expedition close to Manali, fifteen were selected . one more expedition reduced the numberof cadets to ten.

These ten candidates underwent intensive winter training at the Indian Army Siachen Battle school on the Siachenglacier. They were divided into 2 groups for the expedition. the first team scaled Mount Everest on may twenty one,and the second one did it on may twenty two.

Major General S S Jakhar said that these girls will be felicitated and rewarded when they return. Meanwhile, weapplaud the incredible achievement of these young girls, and hope that they become an inspiration for othersaround the country.
