A Couple Saw The Dream of creating people Walk On Water. 46 Years Later, they really made It Happen In Italy!
It was opened to the public on June 18th this year. Named The Floating Piers, this design moved with the waves and was stretched across the lake linking two islands to the mainland. All because of this project, that an otherwise tranquil island monte Isola turned into a traveller hot-spot for 16 days this summer.
This golden path was made of floating polystyrene docks flat-topped with 100,000 sq. meters of shimmering golden yellow cloth, a stark distinction to the green mountainous landscape that surrounds the lake.
“We chose this lake due to its marvelous location, the islands reach hundreds of meters above the sea and only2,000 people live there,” said Bulgarian-American artist Christo, who planned this of the concept back in 1970along with his now late wife, Jeanne-Claude.
The idea was planned nearly 46 years back. Christo along with wife Jeanne wanted to make this together however sadly, Jeanne died in 2008 from a brain aneurysm. The demise of his wife, didn’t deter Christo from fulfilling their dream.
Unfortunately for the world, Christo’s art is nomadic. He says, “ Our works are nomadic, just like people. they appear somewhere for a short time and then they are gone forever”.
