Amazon Is Developing Headphones That Create Pin Drop Silence Till Someone Shouts Out Your Call

Amazon is working on a pair of noise cancelling headphones that create complete silence when the user wears them and turn off when their name is called out.

The headphones play the opposite frequencies of what is happening around the user and so create silence in the wearer’s ears. They are particularly good at silencing out the noise of drones, trains and planes.

The patent for the “suspending noise cancellation using keyword spotting” was made public in July 2016. The user has full control over when to suspend, terminate or resume noise cancellation.

The product is designed to recognize keywords or phrases that will switch off the silence created by the headphones. For example, the user’s name could be a keyword or “sorry”. The system can also be taught to look out for certain words and phrases that will suspend the noise cancellation effect.

It’s important to note that Amazon has filed a patent for an idea, which may or may not turn into a real product.
