‘One last drink, I swear.’, said no one ever.
If you’re one of those who enjoys drinking at a party or a get together and goes all out, a hangover is definitely in tow, and a headache then follows. There is nothing worse than getting up in the morning after partying hard all night and having a bad headache.
Here are a few quick home remedies to shoo that headache and hungover away –
- Drink water
As simple as it sounds, hydrating yourself and drinking water is the easiest and the oldest trick in the book to cure a hangover. To speed up the process, add some lime, salt and sugar to it.
Pro Tip – After coming home from a party, if you’ve consumed alcohol, make sure you drink at least one litre of water before going to bed. It’ll lessen the chances of a headache.
2. Take a good long nap
After all, the body needs to recoup from a whole day of binge drinking.
3. Eat ginger
For centuries, people have taken ginger to reduce nausea and vomiting. Try nibbling crystallized ginger in the aftermath of a night of drinking.
4. Eat Breakfast
Electrolytes in food help replenish a dehydrated system and get calories back into your body. But go easy. While a greasy meal before drinking may help, a hangover needs foods that are easy to digest, like toast and cereal. Some believe that eating burnt toast will help, with the charred carbon crust filtering out impurities much like a carbon water filter. But there’s no research to back it up.
5. Grease up before you go
Eating a pizza or any other kind of fatty foods has the same effect. Both are said to grease the intestines so the alcohol takes longer to absorb.
6. Eat a banana
Due to excessive drinking, lots of potassium gets drained from your body. To help replenish potassium as well as lost electrolytes, one simple solution is to eat bananas. They are a very good source of potassium. Also, bananas help calm the stomach and boost your energy level.
- Eat one or two bananas with your breakfast after a night of heavy drinking to alleviate hangover symptoms.
- You can also opt to prepare a banana milkshake sweetened with honey.
7. Drink Tomato Juice
Having tomato juice is also an effective way to counter hangovers. It helps to metabolize and break down alcohol easily. You may also have tomato soup.
Put some tomato, some drops of lemon and honey into a blender. Blend the mixture, drain the juice and have it during the day of hangover.
