Sanjay Leela Bhansali’s Padmaavat has taken a new record opening at North America box office. Although the film had its paid previews on Thursday there, Friday was its actual grand opening day and it grossed more than $1.1 million which is a brand new record if Bollywood films are concerned. Before Padmaavat, the only Bollywood film which ever even made a $1 million plus single day was Aamir Khan’s Dhoom 3.
By Friday when new films released it dropped to number 10, with only 324 screens, it managed to earn $1.2 million.
Do you know what’s even more shockingly surprising? It comfortably beat Star Wars: The Last Jedi, which, even though in its week 6, was playing in whopping 2456 screens on Thursday and 1745 screens on Friday.
Now that’s something, isn’t it? We’re pretty sure all the actors are proud and happy about the response they’ve got in India and worldwide.
