With our hectic work schedules and family duties, there remains hardly any time to prioritize the important stuff in life! But there are some things every woman should do for herself every year to make sure she doesn’t neglect herself. We bring you 15 absolutely essential things every woman must indulge herself in, at least once a year.
1. Take a day off to pamper yourself
We know everyone says you should do this, but we want you to take this very, very seriously. No work, no phone calls, no lunch or dinner dates, and no Facebook. You need to plug out and go explore something new. Take a book with you, or music, and sit and relax somewhere no one knows you. Remember, the day should only be about you and your thoughts.
2. Buy yourself something you’ve been eyeing all year!
It might be an expensive jacket, or comfy shoes, or even a stylish watch. After practising frugality for the most part of the year, it’s all right if you go out and pick up something you really want
3. Date night with your best friends!
There’s no one in the world who will be honest with you like your oldest friends. Make sure you gather all your childhood besties and go out with them for lunch at least once a year. It’s good to remember who you used to be and how you have changed.
One day in a year, just eat as much as you possibly can!
As you add more stuff to your wardrobe and your desk, it is also important to ritually purge! Get rid of stuff you don’t need any more. Burn things that bring back painful memories. There is no better remedy for a cluttered mind than to unclutter your room first.
6. Get out of the city
If you have a job that doesn’t involve travel, make sure you plan a trip for yourself! Life is all about stuff that happens on holidays, preferably ones you were too drunk to remember.
7. Read at least ten books over the course of a year
We know work schedules tend to get in the way of your reading plan, but persevere! Each book one reads adds so much our lives and personalities. So it’s time we stopped just collecting books, and started reading them too!
8. Medical check-up
Get a proper physical examination every year, particularly to check for lumps in your breasts and HPV. Don’t take this lightly, ladies!
9. Do something kind and nice for someone
After all, true happiness lies in helping other people fulfil their dreams!
10. Take stock
Take some time to reflect on the things you were unsure about achieving but managed to nonetheless. Taking stock of our fears and how we got past them spurs us on to aim for bigger and better things.
11. Save up
And treat yourself at a really expensive restaurant!
12. Wage a kitchen war
If you’re like some of us here – i.e., absolute disasters in the kitchen – start slow and aim to master only one dish every year. And, no, steamed rice doesn’t count!
13. Quit one bad habit
Smoking, drinking, biting your nails, or a bad boyfriend – it’s time to let go!
14. Manage your accounts
Set up a meeting with your accountant to review your finances. It’s good to stay on top of things rather than let them go awry.
