No, it’s not Conjuring and no, it’s not the Nun from the series. That’s Shraddha Kapoor’s first look from her upcoming horror comedy, Stree and we must say, it shook us for a second. The film that also stars Rajkummar Rao in the lead role is a horror story and we wonder if Shraddha is the ghost in it who scares Rao. Anyway, leaving everything aside, let’s focus on why the makers took reference from the Nun’s character that’s so popular in the Conjuring series. Well, we can understand if the original character isn’t a well-known one, but NUN??? Come on, can we be original somewhere?
But we don’t blame the makers of Stree yet as we don’t know its plotlines. There are chances that they have shown Shraddha taking reference from the popular horror franchise in the movie and the relevance is intentional. But if no, we are disappointed with them already.
For the ones who don’t know, the film is based on an urban legend and is directed by Amar Kaushik. While Rajkumar plays a tailor, Shraddha’s character will get a supernatural twist. Speaking to Mumbai Mirror, Amar had said, “For the part, I got Raja sewing machine and we hired a tailor who would go to his house every day and teach him the ropes of the job. Tailoring is all about how fast you can pedal the machine. Raj practiced for 15-20 days and he would send me pictures of his progress. We also had workshops before taking the film on the floors, where all the actors, from Raj to Shraddha, gave inputs and offered improvisations.” Interestingly, a spin-off on the character titled The Nun is due to release on September 7, while Stree releases just a week earlier on August 31.
