Akshay Kumar and Mouni Roy starrer Gold has enjoyed a good extended opening weekend of 5 days by earning Rs 71.30 crore at the box office. Despite facing stiff competition from John Abraham’s Satyameva Jayate, the period social drama has managed to gather good footfalls at the ticket windows. With these figures, Akshay Kumar’s film has become the fifth highest opening weekend grosser of 2018 after Sanju, Padmaavat, Race 3 and Baaghi 2.

Interestingly, this is Akshay Kumar’s second film in the list after Pad Man, which currently holds the eighth position on the list. Since Sonakshi Sinha’s Happy Phir Se Bhag Jaayegi is arriving this week, it’ll be interesting to see how Gold performs at the box office post the comedy caper’s release.
Talking about the film, Gold showcases the journey of India’s first Olympic gold win as a free nation. It is directed by Reema Kagti, who previously helmed films like Honeymoon Travels Pvt Ltd and Talaash. The film marked the Bollywood debut of television actress Mouni Roy and also stars Sunny Kaushal, Amit Sadh, Kunal Kapoor, Vineet Kumar Singh and Nikita Dutta.
