The Bruhat Bengaluru Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) has decided not to undertake white-topping work on all the selected roads at one go. The rethink comes after the civic body has drawn flak from the public — mostly on social media — over its plan to execute the work at the same time, which would’ve unleashed chaos throughout the city.
There was massive outrage when BBMP took up white-topping work last year on Mysore Road, Hosur Road, and Koramangala at one go outrage by a commuter. The traffic police too refused to give permission for the work, given the traffic chaos in stretches where white-topping work was taken up.
The BBMP is also waiting for the rains to stop to take up the work along four roads for which it has received permission from the traffic police. After the monsoon, BBMP will take up work between Sumanahalli-Nayandahalli, Hebbala-Hennur, West of Chord Road and Banasawadi 7th Main. According to sources, the work will be wrapped up in 60 days flat.
According to BBMP, after finishing the work at above four stretches, it wants to take up the work along National College Road, BEMS College Road, and Jayanagar South End Road.
A BBMP official said, “Currently we have decided not to take up the work in nearby places in order to avoid traffic chaos.”
